Донецк. 1975-88 гг. - комсомольская работа: инструктор, заведующий отделом, второй секретарь Донецкого горкома, секретарь Донецкого обкома, секретарь ЦК ЛКСМУ. 1988-91 гг. - партийная работа: секретарь Мариупольского горкома, второй секретарь Донецкого обкома Компартии Украины. 1991-93 гг. - заместитель генерального директора производственного объединения «Укруглемаш», г.Донецк. 1994 г. и по ныне - народный депутат Верховной Рады Украины второго, третьего, четвертого и пятого созывов. В 1999 и 2004 годах - кандидат в Президенты Украины от Компартии Украины. Петр Николаевич Симоненко активный участник и организатор коммунистического движения в стране. Первый секретарь Центрального Комитета Компартии Украины со времени ее воссоздания в июне 1993 года.
